About the event

Franklinton was founded by Lucas Sullivant in 1797, becoming the first non-indigenous settlement in central Ohio. It helped establish Franklin County and played a key role in making Columbus the state capital. The diverse, inclusive community faced repeated challenges. Despite being annexed by Columbus in 1959, Franklinton maintained its unique character well into the late 20th century. Efforts to preserve and revitalize the residential areas have established the region's premier "Arts District," featuring galleries, studios, and performance venues.
